• 2 - Visit of 29 American Journalists to Mozambique The fascist-colonialist Portuguese manage to continue to deceive the world and camouflage the atrocities taking place in our country. After having refused the UN permission to conduct an enquiry into the situation in the Portuguese colonies in Africa, they invited 29 American journalists to "visit" Mozambique. This is not the first time that Portugal used such tactics. Cooperating with imperialist allies, Portugal spent millions of dollars to finance an American enterprise in order to develop Portuguese pro-colonialist propaganda in the USA. On April 3, 196**, 29 journalists from the USA arrived in Lourenco Marques. During their stay they were taken to the offices of the colonialists, to schools reserved for the children of these colonialists, to hospitals and other places where some two or three Africans were put to "prove11 the inter-racial society created by Portugal] But none of these journalists paid to support colonialist propaganda will be taken to visit the prisons or torture camps where thousands of Mozambicans die. None of these journalists will be taken to visit forced labour camps. It is easy to predict what some of these newspapers, for example the Catholic News of Washington, will say. The Mozambican Revolution cautions international public opinion against these journalists. They visited Mozambique like tourists, they have not seen how our people are suffering under Portuguese oppression. Five More Military Companies in Mueda In November, 1963, five more military companies from Portugal arrived in Mueda. They were sent there to prevent any uprising of the Mozambican people. Uhen they arrived, they distributed pamphlets in the local African language in which they said: "Here is Portugal! Mozambique is Portugal J White, black, mulatto, etc. we are all Portuguese]" We must remind those who read this that in June, 1960, in the same region at least 500 Mozambicans were shot by the Portuguese army because they refused to give up the land that belonged to them for centuries to the white colonialists. The fact is that Mozambique is not Portugal and we are not Portuguese. Ue are Mozambicans and we are determined to fight for the liberty of our country. Neither 5 nor 500 companies can prevent us from achieveing our liberty.
