J NEW PORTUGUESE COLONIAL ARM OF EXTERMINATION Excerpt from Combate Nuber 2 published in Cairo by UDENAMO News received recently from the interior of Mozambique, indicate that inspite of world opinion, the facsist and criminal government of Salazar still continues its policy of destruction and the extermination in the so-called "overseas provinces of Portugal". The terror which the African people are subjected to is horrible. An eye-witness who recently arrived reported the following unjust and sensational happening of the 20th century. Our eye-witness, Mr. J. Uamusa, in his own words says: "Brothers, I deseerted from home in panic without any destination and money. The actual situation in Mozambique is critical and lamentable. Death is imminent and one Is not sure as to whether he will see the next day. The colonialists, realising that the day of their eventual doom is nearing, are now using all forms of reprisals and extermination within their reach. Apart from the terrible "chibalo" (forced labor) which the entire world has heard of, it is also worth mentioning the numerous prisons, unemployment, immorality and the poisoning of the various foods which our people liva on and which they watch in silence. It is the poisoning of food which I want to talk af, as this is the new arm of "cleansing" of the Portuguese colonialists. This happened recently in my home land, Gaza, Mozambique in the month of February, 1963. Torrential rains accompanied by heavy storms destroyed all the crops thus resulting in starvation that affected districts situated in the south of the Save river and certain parts of the Beira district. The Portuguese,-taking advantage of this natural contrast, distributed to the hunger stricken maize-meal, groundnuts and sugar which was without doubt poisoned. The result was that the majority of the people who received the food ended either in the grave or hospital. The entire population protested indignantly against the cruelty and cowardice of the Portuguese. The commiting of suicide by chief Mahumane of the district of Gaza after seeing the dead bodies of his six sons, wife and niece was not without reason. Yes \ our unfortunate Mahumane seeing himself left alone went to the administrative authorities and requested them to kill him too. Because the administrator took him to be a lunatic, our chief waited for the calm hours of the night and there on a big tree between the admnistration offices and the elementary school bought himself the black ticket of eternity. In this manner disappeared Mahumane with many others of his like. In this manner disappeared many Mahumanes simply because they were Mahumanes." What our eye-witness has just mentioned is not the first of its type when the barbaric Portuguese poison fooe In order to win their objectives. In January in the section of Ports and Harbours of Lourenco Moarques, a Portuguese section leader in bay No. J, poisoned tvo casks of wine vith sulfate of soda when the caks were declared damaged. The result of this criminal act was the death of 33 African labourere. The criminal was not brought before the courts of law. Portuguese malice does not end here. In March, this year, in a sugar factory of Xinavane, our masters repeated the same criminal act. This time with the poisoning of the river water. Once more again hundreds of people were transferred to the other world, died. The local authorities laid the blame in the existence of poisonous parasites in teh area and as preventive measures, instructions for the vaccination of the African population in the area were issued. Yes! This is the type of life the African enjoys in Mozambique. One may ask, where is peace, the liberty and the equal rights prowiaimed by the despotic government of Portugal? For his broadcast of the I2/8/63 Salazar repeated his ever stupid and blind phrases that "In Mozambique there are ho Mozambicans, but Portuquese," or Mozambique does not exist without Portugal and many others that are not worth mentioning here. Such words can only be pronounced by the mouth of an unconscious demagogue like Salazar the dictator whose colonial system imposed hundreds of years ago, is not supported by the African people.
