FRELIMO In Lusaka - March I96U According to the latest news coming from FRELIMO'2 branch in Lusaka, capital of Northern Rhodesia, the Portugueses in Mozambique are continuously disrespecting our attempts to achieve independence to live, to have property. The spokesman of the FRELIMO movement at the press conference in that town pointed out Portuguese barbarities. He said: "The Portuguese in reaction to FRELIMO1s activities and massive organization, have decided to arrest, to emprison and to kill our people as a measure to impede Mozambique from becoming free and independent. "However, the Portuguese whould know that even if the sun has to rise from the west, Mozambique will be free and will have a majority government. The right to rule Mozambique will be restored to its peopl and this will take palce very soon." It is true that machine guns and other means of torture used by the Portuguese will not be able to quench the flaming aesire we have of achieving independence. The saine spokesman added: "The Portuguese rule by terror and gunpoint must come to an end immediately. The present situation in Mozambique cannot be borne by- anybody. So^forty thousand (40,000) soldiers are scattered throughout Mozambique". When the Portuguese are being attacked because of using force against disarmed natives, they argue that this is impossible since everything is peaceful inside Mozambique. Why do they bring so many soldiers, if everything is quiet, why so many machine guns? They still use the arguments that the terrorists come from other countries and agitate the territories under their domination, but inside there is nothing wrong. I am against this fallacy. If the people inaide don't revolt, it is because they are being squashed by the police, by the soldiers. If we disarm all this force, we will see that within hours all natives will rebel and take over. Furthermore, those vho organize struggle in rar-es-Salaam are not strangers. Their leader was born in Mozambique and lived in Mozambique. The soldiers were being trained in Dar for our liberation are all Mozambique citizens • Escaped from Mozambique, some recently and some a Jong time ago. The spokesman continued: "Within this month alone, the following arrests have taken place: 50 in Zumbo, Tete District; 7 at Zavale, In .Ihambane District; 70 at Cobwe in Niassa District; and many other arrests in areas from which information has not reached us yet.
