It was, in fact, the first time that a Mozambican had visited those Soviet republics. * * * * * * * * * * "CALM" AND "PEACE" IN MOZAMBIQUE "The Information Service of the Portuguese Armed.Forces announces that Captain David Coelho Araujo v/as killed in- fighting in Mozambique. Captain David Araujo fought in Spain during te Spanish Civil War; he was in the Azores during World War II, and served as a member of an expeditionary force in Macao in 1949. He had received many lauditory citations and many Portuguese and Spanish military medals. Two months ago he left the post of District Commander of the Public Security Police of Santarem (Portugal) and v/as sent to Mozambique." (Diario de Mozambique, 3.8.6§) The extent of our armed struggle nc longer allows the Portuguese Government to hide the existence of war in Mozambique nor to disguise their defeats. Almost daily the Portuguese Armed Forces issue a communique in' v/hich they announce the death of Portuguese soldiers in the fighting. The number they have announced is much smaller than the real number cf Portuguese soldiers killed by our militants, but the mere fact that they are announced by the Portuguese temselves is in itself significant.
