14. We knew of the military alliance between Portugal and France. News from Portugal tells us that there are French military advisers in Lisbon, who, during the Algerian war, directed the operations against the guerrilla war'of the Algerian people. Now they are unemployed, and they are sent to Portugal to train the Portuguese troops. * * * 2. West German Colonies The economic interests of West Germany in the Portuguese colonies, especially Angola, are immense. West Germany buys an enormous quantity of raw materials at a very low price. This explains why the balance of trade of the Federal Republic of Germany with Portugal has a deficit: in 1964, total imports from Angola .amounted to goods worth 95 million German marks. Exports to Angola were worth 47.3 million German marks. * * * 3. "Krupp, an industrial organisation of Federal Germany, has already invested one million, five hundred thousand contos (about 52 million dollars) in the exploitation of the iron mines of Cassinga in Angola. It is possible that Construction Promotion Ltd. of London will also collaborate, Krupp announced." (Diario de Mozambique, 21.6.65) Therefore, it is Krupp who decides who will share with it the exploitation of the Portuguese colonies! There is no reason to wonder: economically, Angola, as well as the other Portuguese colonies, are in fact West German colonies. * * * 4. "Economists and businessmen from Portugal and Federal Germany yesterday discussed ways to increase West German investments in Portugal and her overseas territories at a meeting in Dusseldorf. The spokesman for the Federation of German Industry, which organised the conversations with the Federation of Portuguese Industries, said that the discussions had also spotlighted ways of increasing German imports from Portugal...."
