EDITORIAL The international solidarity with the struggling Mozambican people and their movement, FRELIMO, is increasingly wide-spread and positive. All African and Asian countries express, concretely and actively, their support for FRELIMO. In 1963, "the Organisation of African Unity, after a study of the situation in Mozambique, identified itself with our ideals and recognised FRELIMO as the only movement representative of the Mozambican people. The Afro-Asian People's Solidarity Conference in 1963 approved a resolution in which it "encouraged FRELIMO to carry on the struggle against Portuguese colonialism, imperialism and neo-colonialism", and "assured the Mozambican people and their organisation FRELIMO of its entire support in their struggle for freedom." In May 1965, the same organisation elected FRELIMO to membership on its Executive Committee. All the socialist countries in Europe support us, morally and materially. The solidarity of the countries of Latin America is also alive, although mainly in terms of moral support. It is not by accident that FRELIMO is internationally recognised and supported. That recognition is based on the popular nature of our organisation, on our activity among the people in our country,- because it is not words or manoeuvres that make peoples, governments and organisations throughout the world recognise and support a political movement. It is the fact that a movement represents the people, interprets the popular will and has the full support «of -the masses. Without the support of the people, the fighting programmes of FRELIMO would be condemned to failure. The support of the people explains all our victories. This support also explains the opposition that the imperialist and neo-colonialist countries maintain against us. In fact, since our revolution is a popular one, after independence the power will* belong to the people. Exploitation will no longer be possible. Those countries (namely the United States of America, West Germany, Britain, Switzerland and Belgium) today control Mozambique.economically through Portugal. After our victory against Portuguese colonialism, sovereign power will be restored to the people. Mozambique will stop serving these imperialist powers as a source of raw materials and as a market for their products. Is it therefore strange that the United States and Britain (as well as all other imperialist countries) say NO to our independence and say YES to Portuguese colonialism? That NO, however,•does not stop our revolution. Our struggle develops, not only the armed struggle, but also the political struggle; In the regions where the armed struggle has not yet begun, the people are impatient. We explained to them the programme of FRELIMO. We have told them of the victories already achieved by FRELIMO militants in the Northern and North Central
