10. The Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar appears as a symbol in today's Africa. It will remain, real, solid, indestructible, because this Union is the result of the common decision of two brother people, who decided to join their forces and unite their destinies for the integral realisation of their aspirations. Long live the Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar! Long live the people of Tanzania! Long live the solidarity between the peoples of Tanzania and Mozambique! CENTRAL COMMITTEE OF FRELIMO ********** NEWS HIGHLIGHTS Admiral Anderson Criticised By the Portuguese Press The Ambassador of the United States of America in Lisbon, Admiral Anderson, who some months ago visited Angola and Mozambique and issued statements lauding the Portuguese colonial policy, has been violently criticised in the Portuguese newspapers. The origin of the attack is a speech made by the Ambassador to the American Men's Luncheon Group. According to the Portuguese newspapers, the Ambassador referred to all that the US has done for Portugal within the structure of NATO as a "favour" from the US to Portugal. The Ambassador is also reported to have said that "God gave the United States the responsibility of protecting other peoples like Portugal.". Diario de Manha comments that "V/hat the Ambassador says is neither diplomatic nor exact. It is true that Portugal has received much cooperation and assistance from the US, but she has also given cooperation in return." The recognition by the Portuguese of the great"cooperation and assistance" they have received from the US is the most important thing to be noted in this "incident". * * * Ariericans in LourenQO Marques on a "Study" Visit "Thirty-four members of the National War College in Washington arrived in Lourengo Marques for a three day visit. The group, which arrived in a plane of the Portuguese Air Force, is headed by Ambassador Samuel Berger. After their arrival in Lourengo Marques, they went to the Governor General's palace, where they participated in a meeting chaired by General Costa Almeida, Governor General of Mozambique."
