7 - COMMUNIQUE NO. 7 15th January, 1965 The following are the latest informations we received, concerning our fight: 1. In the evening of 31st December, the freedom fighters of FRELIMO, who were gathered in DIACA, attacked the administrative post, killing 4 Portuguese soldiers and one African policeman. 2. In.the morning of 1st January, 1965, about 100 Portuguese soldiers were sent in pursuit of our fighters who, after the attack referred to above, had returned to the base. At about 1 mile from our military base the Portuguese soldiers were intercepted by 3 of our soldiers. A brief exchange of shots followed, during which the 3 militants of FRELIMO were killed. When our fighters, who were in the base, heard the shots, they dispersed by groups and, in a combined movement, they encircled the 100 Portuguese -soldiers. Attacked from all sides with machine-gun fire, the Portuguese had no possibility to react: eighty-three (83)? numbered one by one by our militants, fell down, killed, on the spot of the attack* The others escaped. Two of our fighters v/ere killed, and 3 wounded. * * * In one of the "visits" the Portuguese soldiers made to one village, in an attempt to find FRELIMO* s fighters, one of the soldiers asked a Mozambican if he had not seen armed pygmies in that region* "Those v/ho attack us must be pygmies", he said* "Otherwise they could not hide and disappear so easily"0 That question shewed a certain naivete of the Portuguese soldier^ But it revealed also the rapidity of action and the efficiency of our guerrilleros: they appear, attack and disappear. Nature is their natural ally. They come from the bush and disappear into the bush. ****** * -x- * COMMUNIQUE NO. 8 21st January, 1965 1. On the 29th December 1964 the militants of FRELIMO attacked the administrative post of Olivenca, in NYASA Province. The post was enclosed within a barbed, which was later found to be electrified. They limited themselves to shooting at the guards and at the Portuguese soldiers v/ho v/ere coming to the rescue of the guards. A total of 6 Portuguese soldiers ware struck down.
