- 9 - Once the peoples of Africa, the more than 250 million souls, have awakened and decided to take up arms against coloni alism and imperialism, there is nothing that can stop them. We are firmly determined to break the chains of imperialism once and for all in our continent, and we will fight, using every available means to reach our desired goal: complete freedom. Already our preparations for the final struggle are progressing satisfactorily. As we have stated many times beofre, our struggle for national independence is only the first step, and a necessary one for our revolution: after political independence we will have to continue to fight for the progressive elimination of all the vestiges of colonialism and imperialism v/hich are likely to try and indirectly enslave our people and keep them backward and poor for a long time. We believe that our struggle is the same as that of millions of other people in the rest of Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe, who are working for their emancipation from all sorts of arbitrary rules and powerful economic exploitations. So long as our struggle is part of the world struggle for the freedom of mankind, there is not fear. We will win. PORTUGUESE MILITARY BUDGET FOR MOZAMBIQUE : j 12.500t000 In order to convince the world that Mozambique is peaceful the Portuguese colonialists say that there is no sign of nationalism there. But if we look into the situation in the country we notice that there is a permanent mobilising of Portuguese troops in Mozambique, and from the way they intimidate, arrest,,.torture and massacre our people we can only conclude that there is a feeling of nationalism in the country♦ The Governor - General in Mozambique has recently been replaced. The first one was considered too moderate. The new Governor - General is a General in the Portuguese army and a graduate of the fascist school of Salazar. Another sign that the Portuguese are convinced that there is a nationalist movement in Mozambique is that the National Assembly has adopted a very high budget for military defence in Mozambique. The sum allocated to Mozambique this year for defence is 495 thousand contos or $12,500,00, the highest it has ever been. This is a sure illustration that the Portuguese are afraid of nationalism in Mozambique. FRELIMO is sure that because our struggle is a just one and supported by all tho people in Mozambique, victory will be ours.
