- 7 - MAY DAY 1964 FRELIMO as a movement of the masses which gathers all the people of Mozambique (workers, peasents, students, etc.) for the fight for a free, peacefull and democratic country, joined with great pleasure the May Lay celebrations that took place in different places of the world. At the invitation of the people of Zanzibar a delegation of FRELIMO composed of comrades Uria SIMANGO, Vice President and Pascoal MOCUMBI, Head of the Information Department, went to Zanzibar to participate in the May Day celebrations organized there. FRELIMO members in Tanganyika joined with NUTA, the Tanganyi- kan workers movement, in the celebrations v/hich took place in Dar es Salaam. Another delegation composed of Eduardo MONDLaNE, President, and Marcelino DOS SANTOS, Secretary for External Affairs, who was visiting Moscow at the time, was also present at the May Day celebrations there, and .delivered the following message to the working people in the Soviet Union: "On the occasion of May Day v/e wish to extend fraternal greetings to the working people in the Soviet Union and the world over from the workers and people of Mozambique. The important objective for us, the people of Mozambique, is the liberation of our country. The working people are taking up the struggle for independence on the plantations, in mines, factories and ports. Urban and rural workers comprise the main force of our revolution. Together with the intellectuals, office workers and students, they are waging a struggle for national liberation in "underground conditions, overcoming great hardsips, but v/ith great faith in the future. The people of Mozambique know from their own experience, that the only way of abolishing Portuguese colonialism is taking up arms. This is mhy our movement THE MOZAMBIQUE LIBERATION FRONT (FRELIMO) directs the working people of our country to wage an armed struggle for the liberation of their country, and to build a free and prospering Mozambique. In doing this the people of our country realise that the fulfilment of this task is a part of the overall battle for the economic and social liberation of the people of the world. The working people of Mozambique are eager to cooperate with the working people of the Soviet Union and the world over. The objectives facing the working people of all countries demand unity of action. • The struggle for the ultimate abolition of the exploitation of man by man, all over the world, for social wellbeing, development and culture are elements of the general battle, which is closely associated with the fight for peace, and it is a matter of vital interest to all the working people.
