-8- OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY: Portugal is trying to make something out of the theory of self- -determination in order to confuse international opinion. We have severely criticized, in the Fourth Committee of the United Nations last November, the organic law and the Portuguese theory of self-determination. We shall not repeat that agrumenti However, we wish to make it very clear that we are fighting for the full and complete independence of Mozambique and for nothing else. We shall never begin discussions with Portugal before she solemnly recognizes our right of self-determination and independence. PREPARATION OF MILITARY CADRES While our work inside the country is going on, we are preparing political and military cadres which will organize the masses and lead a well-organized armed struggle, because, as we have already said, we have no other alternative but an armed action directed against colonialism in our country. INCREASE OF THE POLITICAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE MASSES FRELIMO is certain that the non-political masses are anti-revolutionary. That is why we give great importance to the political formation of our militants and to the progressive increase of their national conscience, which is made by contact with our responsible politicians. We have also a national bulletin, which is translated into the more important languages of our country, in which we expose clearly the aims of our struggle, the cause of our struggle and our enemies. These enemies are not the Portuguese people. We are not against the Portuguese pe-ople who are also .oppressed and suffering. Our enemy It*. imperialism in its many forms. This is very important in the sense that we are convinced that the struggle we are having today, that is, the struggle for national, independence, constitutes only one phase of our revolution. Our total liberation demands more effort and a greater political maturity- It is with this political formation that we can prepare, with gre^ promise of success, the necessary conditions for a radical revolution in the actual being of things in Mozambique. We want to transform Mozambique from a dependent, oppressed and exploited country into a free, prosperous country, in which the exploitation of man by man will be eliminated altogether. We want to live in peace, and we are determined not to accept • in our country any foreign military bases of any country whatsoever. COMPLICITY OF IMPERIALISTS? Many people of good faith ask themselves the following questions - How can Portugal, this small, backward and underdeveloped country, support a colonial war? For us the answer is simple: -Portugal is but an intermediary. The colonial war is supported by NATO. The member nations of NATO support Portugal with arms and even with men. ...oo/.o.o.
