FI .JMO MOZAMBIQUE LIBERATION FRONT UvV/^„^-^;X:. NO. 79 The military situation has not changed in Cabo Delgado. The enemy still remains confined to posts, going out from time to time on patrol operations. These operations are vary intensive near the coast, because they are conducted by use of ships. In the interior, fear of ambushes makes the Portuguese soldiers keep far from their posts. In Hocimboa da Praia, the Portuguese have recently created a recruitment and training center for African soldiers. Their plan is to force those soldiers, whom they conscript in the villages, to go in front of their units in order that they become cannon fodder of our attacks. In the ranks of FRELIHO there are more than 130 African soldiers who desertdd the Portuguese army and joined the struggle for national liberation. CABO DELGADO PROVINCE: Ij The road between Mueda and Sagal was-mined by FRELIMO guerrillas. On the 15th November, 1966, a convoy of 26 military lorries passed by that road from Sagal. The lorries were empty: the soldiers were marching behind. Our guerrillas let the lorries pass. Whon the soldiers were on the mines, FRELIHO guerrillas made them explode. lioro than 15 soldiers were killed, with many wounded. 2. On the l6/ll/66, 3 PRELIMO fighters who were on a reconnaissance mission localised a Portuguese patrol and ambushed it in the village of Chief MRTJMBA, Macomia region. 6 enemy soldiers were killed and 3 were wounded. 3. On the 20th November, 1966, several PRELIMO guerrilla units joined and again attacked the military post of Sagal. Our attack was launched at night with bazooka and machine-gun fire. Wo do not know the casualties the enemy suffered. 4. On tho 21st November, I966, one day after our attack at the Sagal military post, Portuguese reinforcements were sent to "hunt" the guorrillas.
