3. On the 28th July our militants ambushed a convoy of 6 lorries
loaded with Portuguese soldiers.  One lorry was destroyed and two
were put cut of action.   Eleven Portuguese soldiers were killed.
One of our militants was killed and 2 were wounded.
4. On the 30th of July one FRELIMO militant ambushed a group of
Portuguese soldiers on the road between Nangade and Mueda.  As
the soldiers passed, our partisan shot at them with a home-made "gun.
One Portuguese soldier was killed.  After shooting, our militant
disappeared into the bush.
5. On  the 31st of July FRELIMO militants ambushed a group of- Portuguese
soldiers on the road between Muatide and Muidumbe.  At least- 7
soldiers were killed.  The others fled, allowing our militants to
capture important war material (machine-guns, rifles and ammunition).
6. On the 6th of August one  of our militants prepared a trap with
explosives on the road between Mueda and Miteda. Two Portuguese
soldiers were killed.
COMMDNIQUE NO. 31
27th August, 19^5.
The frequency and the success of our military operations are
confirmed by the Portuguese themselves.  The Portuguese authorities
recently declared in a North-American Newspaper that, during the month
of July, it was in Mozambique that the Portuguese troops had the most
losses. Almost daily the Portuguese Armed Forces issue communiques
announcing the death of Portuguese soldiers whilst fighting in Mozambique;
not only privatess on the 3rd of August, for example, they announced the
death of a captain.
Our victories are a result of our political action during the past
three years, and of our direct military action which has lasted for a
year.  Prom now on, our successes will Increase constantly? because the
revolutionary struggle of the people is itself the most important factor
for their political education, and creates on the other side more and
more favourable conditions for its rapid development.
The following are some of the military operations launched by
FRELIMO militants in NIASSA Province during the present month of Augusts
1.  On the 14th of August a lorry loaded with Portuguese soldiers was
going out of the Metangula Headquarters.  It was destroyed by mines
placed on the road by our militants, at a distance of 100 meters from
Headquarters.  Eight Portuguese soldiers were killed.
