flying from Mueda to Macomia. The plane crashed in the zone of NAMICUPA. 2. On the 19th of September 4 guerrilla units of FRELIMO attacked Portuguese troops which had camped in the military post of MITEDA. The Portuguese soldiers were on parade, for the raising of the flag. Attacked with heavy machine gun fire from several sides, they could not react, trying only to escape, in panic. Twenty soldiers were killed, among whom one lieutenant. 3. On the same day, FRELIMO guerrillas ambushed a convoy of 4 military cars, in the region of MASSANGANO, 2 kms from MUEDA. The front car was destroyed and another was put out of action. Eight Portuguese soldiers were killed. One FRELIMO militant was killed and two more were wounded during the exchange of shots. 4. On the 21st of September our guerrillas ambushed a convoy of three cars on the road of CUERO. The front car was destroyed with one mine. Our guerrillas shot at the others. Four soldiers were killed and 6 others were killed or wounded. 5. On the 25th of September a Landrover carrying Portuguese soldiers was destroyed by one mine placed on the road by our militants, in the region of CHAIo The car was completely destroyed. All the soldiers, numbering 6, died. 6. On the 26th of September, FRELIMO guerrillas attacked a group of 6 soldiers who were guarding a shop in NAMBINI, 2 kms from Macomia. Three Portuguese soldiers were killed. COMMUNIQUE No 37 NIASSA PROVINCE 20 October 1965 On the 28th of September at 1:30 pm., a patrol of 11 Portuguese soldiers disembarked from a small boat on the shore of Niassa lake, in Cobue. A lorry was sent from the military post of Cobue to pick up the soldiers. Fifty metres from the shore, the lorry hit a mine placed by our guerrillas and was destroyed. The 3 soldiers in it were killed. On hearing the explosion, the remaining soldiers reboarded the boat precipitously and fled. Our guerrilas, who were in ambush, ran to the edge of the water and shot at the boat. The boat overturned. The soldiers, with their equipment on them, fell into the river. Only two managed to reach the shore and mere captured by our guerrillas. The others, 9 in number, drowned. CABO DELGADO PROVINCE ' 1. On the 26th of September FRELIMO guerrillas ambushed a convoy of 4 military cars. The attack fel on the last one, which was destroyed with bazooka fire. Five Portuguese soldiers were killed. The action took place in the region of MIKUBE. 2. On the 27th of September our guerrillas ambushed a convoy of 10 military cars in Mocimboa da Praia. The first car was destroyed by a mine placed 11
