2. On the 25th of August our militants destroyed with explosives a bridge between Metangula and Maniamba. Upon hearing the explosion the Portuguese sent two lorries loaded with soldiers from the Metangula Headquarters. Our militants had placed anti-car mines on the road. The front car was completely destroyed. Ten Portuguese soldiers were killed and others were wounded, 3. On the 28th a guerrilla unit of FRELIMO ambushed a group of Portuguese soldiers in the region of CHAI. The Portuguese had arrived by boat, through Niassa lake. Our attack lasted for 10 minutes. Many soldiers were killed or wounded? however, we do not know the exact number, because the survivors retreated, carrying their dead and wounded with them in the boat and escaped. There were no casualties on our side. COMMUNIQUE Ho 35 f 6 October 1965 The Conference of the Nationalist Organisations of Portuguese Colonies (CONCP) is meeting in Dar Es Salaam to coordinate the struggle of the peoples under Portuguese colonialism. The Mozambican people, under FRELIMO leadership, contribute to the succes of the common efforts of all liberation movements, by inflicting successive defeats on the colonialist troops. 1. On the 12th of September FRELIMO guerrillas destroyed a Portuguese military plane in MANIAMBA. Our guerrillas had placed mines on the airfield. When the plane was landing, it fell on one mine and exploded. 2. On the 17th of September 2 military vehicles were passing through a half- liberated zone, in Niassa Province. One of the cars hit a mine placed on the road by our militants and was destroyed. Six soldiers were killed. 3. On the 20th three guerrilla units of FRELIMO ambushed a group of Portuguese soldiers who were going from one village to another, in an attempt to find our guerrillas. Eleven Portuguese soldiers were killed.One of our militants was wounded. 4. On the 23rd the population of Chitolo, mobilised by FRELIMO militants, ambushed a convoy of 3 cars carrying Portuguese soldiers. The first car fell on a mine and was destroyed, forcing the others to stop. Our militants fired. The number of soldiers who were killed is 18. One of our militants was killed and another was wounded in the exchange of fire. COMMUNIQUE No 36 11 October 1965 The first anniversary of the beginning of the armed struggle in Mozambique was celebrated by our militants with an increase of the military actions.
