COMMUNIQUES COMMUNIQUE No 33 CABO DELGADO PROVINCE 16 September 1965 1. On the 13th of August FRELIMO militants assisted by the people, ambushed a military lorry and one "jeep" loaded with Portuguese soldiers. Eight soldiers were killed. Two of our militants were wounded. 2. On the 17th of August at 9 p.m. our militants attacked a group of Portuguese soldiers who had camped in an African village, in the region of the Regulo NAMUANDQA, 1 km from the administrative centre of Macomia. Attacked by surprise with bazookas, machine-guns and grenades when they were having dinner, the Portuguese soldiers could not return our fire, trying to escape in disorder. Our militants found 17 Portuguese killed in the spot of the attack, and captured many arms and ammunition - most of which however were damaged due to a fire and to the action of the grenades. 3. On the same day, FRELIMO guerrillas ambushed a convoy of 6 military cars carrying Portuguese soldiers, in the zone between Muidumbe and Muatide. Our militants subjected the vehicles to heavy fire as they passed. We do not know the number of soldiers killed. 4. On the 21st of August FRELIMO guerrillas attacked a Portuguese patrol stationed in Namuda, Nangade zone. The soldiers were caught unaware while they were getting up. After the attack, which lasted only for two minutes, our militants turned back. Seven Portuguese soldiers were killed or wounded, 5. On the 27th our guerrillas attacked the post of CHAI, as a reprisal for the murder of 3 Mozambican nationalists near a spring the day before, in that zone. The attack was made at 24 o'clock. The house of the administrator and the tents where the soldiers were sleeping were destroyed. At least 10 Portuguese soldiers were killed. The chief of the post was also killed. This one is the second chief of that post who is killed by our guerrillas. COMMUNIQUE No 34 NIASSA PROVINCE 22 September 1965 1. On the 22nd of August, 5 guerrilla units of FRELIMO ambushed a group of 100 Portuguese soldiers in MANIAMBA. The Portuguese troops, attacked with heavy cross fire, were literally decimated. After the attack, our guerrillas turned back and disappeared. About 55 soldiers were killed or wounded? in fact, the people of the region confirms that, from that group, a maximum of 45 soldiers returned to the Headquarters 5 and that 3 lorries went to the place of the attack to remove the dead and the wounded. During the attack one of our militants was killed and two were wounded.
