blond and Mama Edie, the 250 pound egg lady who sits in a
playpen dressed only in a girdle and bra and worships eggs.
The rival group consists of Connie and Raymond Marble, a
punk couple who sell heroine to elementary school children
and kidnap girls, impregnating them in order to sell the
babies to lesbian couples. The film proceeds with each
competitor trying to outdo his opponent, leaving Waters
open to any number of gross indecencies. For example,
Babs steals a piece of meat and hides it in her crotch,
only to cook and eat it later on; Crackers and Cookie make
love with a live chicken between their bodies until the
bird, in actuality, dies; Babs defecates on the lawn; a
hermaphrodite exposes him/herself; Babs receives
excrement in the mail; and in the infamous birthday scene,
the police who come to break it up are killed and eaten
by the guests. Ultimately, Babs reclaims the title as
the "world's filthiest person" when she ingests the dog
feces in the last moments of the film.
In Female Trouble, teenager Dawn Davenport (played
by Divine) kills her mother after not receiving the cha-cha
boots she was promised for Christmas and leaves home.
On the road, she is raped by a truckdriver (who is also
played by Divine, thus creating a somewhat bizarre and
androgynous image of Divine raping him/herself), becomes
a burglar, a prostitute and an unwed mother. (After the
