Ib2 general business slump. Electrical equipment and machine industry. This field is also under the influence of foreign businesses though it is far from being under their control. As of March 31, 195^? there were seventy-five technical assistance agreements entered into by Japanese firms with foreign manufacturers in this industry. There were, among them, seven cases where foreign businesses acquired the controlling or influential portion of shares of Japanese firms.^ Now, this field is dominated by four powerful Zaibatsu manufacturers, namely, Toshiba Electric Industry (Mitsui group), Nippon Electric Industry (Sumitomo group), Mitsubishi Electric Machine, and Hitachi Works (semi- Yasuda-Asano group). 1. Technical assistance or participation of foreign businesses.
