CHAPTER V RE-FORMATION AND TRANSFORMATION OF ZAIBATSU THROUGH THEIR STRUGGLE FOR POWER IN NEW INDUSTRIAL FIELDS In the preceding chapter it has been suggested that the banks, though particularly important in post-war economy, are not and will not be the central power of Zaibatsu re-formation and transformation. In this chapter, some of the basic forces which drive enterprises to be reunited and to re-form Zaibatsus will be analyzed. The forces herein dealt with are those which manifest themselves in the struggle of enterprises for power in the new industrial fields. The analysis thereof will, it is hoped, reveal some of the essential characters of the Zaibatsu re-formation. I. ZAIBATSUS IN CHEMICAL AND SYNTHETIC TEXTILE INDUSTRY Chemical thread and fabrics.
