68; Roof beams are single unit shop fabricated tapered beam welded plate girders. Field erection consists simply of setting in place on columns and installing the necessary rod bracing systems. No alignment problems exist and erection can easily be done in less than one day. Carpentry Unchanged The total carpentry manhours remain essentially unchanged with the improved design although the roof framing is considerably different. The improved design makes use of a nailer bolted to the top of a tapered steel beam from which metal joist -hangers are hung. Joists are placed between the tapered beams in the joist hangers at 2 T0" centers to provide the support for plywood sheathing. The result is a somewhat different roof design placed with nearly identical manhours. Metal door frames embedded in the concrete panels were used throughout and prefit metal doors were placed in the improved design resulting in a small decrease for finish carpentry manhours. Remaining Hand Crafts Unchanged The onsite labor manhours for placing steel sash, roofing and sheet metal are unchanged; however, some small improvement in painting may be noted. Steel tonnage is reduced proving a corresponding reduction in painting man-hours. Some improvement in manhours will also result from .
