148" specifications listing specifically the desired knowledge and ability required of the incumbent in that position. Opposite each item covered by the specification there is a blank space one-half page in width in which the qualifications of the candidate are entered by the personnel department. This personal and confidential information is obtained from performance appraisals and evaluations of potential completed on each individual by his immediate supervisor. An evaluation by management of the foregoing information for all candidates for advancement determines their relative placement on the management inventory chart which utilizes the format in Figure 15. The purpose of the management inventory chart (Figure 15) is to provide management with a concise and convenient visual summary of the promotability of each individual occupying an executive position within the organization. It provides at a glance information as to the availability of qualified replacements for each executive position. Thus management’s attention is drawn to the areas in which there is lack of depth in management reserves and priority is given development plans designed to overcome those particular deficiencies.
