which is driven by their Research Department. “Urgency” used by the Superintendent exemplifies the drive of the district to continuously wanting to improve student success. Measurement of such successes is in the data. Again, the Research Department allows the forward movement of reform in using data to improve student achievement. The Superintendent challenged the Assistant Superintendent of Research to publish measurable improvement other than SAT-9 and API, At times the hard to measure results holds more meaning, The Superintendent gave an example of one teacher of the year who may not he an expert in standards but has created and published a book with individual student’s diary. The Research Department is involved in every process to establish district-wide high-performance goals. Every reform effort must be supported by data, Multiple measures are used by the district such as district test, state test, academic tests, and college entrance tests. The first notebook of test results of these multiple measures are provided by the Research Department in August to every school within the district. This information provides the school with validation to guide the instructional practice in increasing student performance, This year, the Co- Principals used the data on reading scores in the SAT-9 at all grade levels to not only establish literacy classes at the ninth and tenth grade levels but to have a school-wide focus in literacy. In math, teachers are encouraged to read the text to the students as well as students reading the text to them. In 1996, Lincoln High School implemented and became a classical high school, a magnet school with strong academic focus and mandatory dress code.
