Object Description
Title | Brooks Street painting, Venice, 1969 |
Description | Brooks Street painting, Venice, 1969. Painted by the Los Angeles Fine Arts Squad included Terry Schoonhaven, Victor Henderson, Leonard Koren, and Jim Frazen. "Sharing a profound distaste for the 'art scene'--i.e., the galleries, the cliques, the politico economics involved in showing works of their art ... they turned to the street and began painting the brick wall outside Terry's studio residence in Brooks Street in Venice. The result was a precise, mirrored reflection in deep perspective on the view down Brooks Street [i.e. Brooks Avenue] which faced the painting. The "mirror image" or "double reality" of Brooks Street is one the two completed L.A.F.A.S. pieces still intac"-- Street paintings of Los Angeles, unpaged, #1-2. According to http://muralconservancy.org/artist/la-fine-arts-squad (viewed on Dec. 2, 2012) the studio was owned by Victor Henderson. |
