A private album with a wide variety of different kinds of image - photographs and engravings of persons and of places, but also religious pictures. Some pages with nothing but text, and these have not been noted or transcribed (PJ 08.2002). - There are a number of empty pages. These have been left uncounted. - Comments and information on some individual images have been recorded from A. Frenz in 1994 (who secured us the chance to include this album in our system) and incorporated in this database by BFN. - Two images are missing. One comes from before photo no. 1 in our numeration (Ludwig Gundert) , and one from between 6 and 7 (Hermann Gundert, see Calwer Diary.) (PJ 08.2002). Altogether this album deserves concentrated attention. It must contain some of the earliest photographs from India which we can show. Note that Hermann Gundert returned from India "for good" in 1859-60......but that his son Samuel became a missionary in Mangalore, so the supply of photographs for Emma Gundert from relatives in India will not have dried up with Hermann Gundert's return.
