Note: "Album (beschädigt) Ghana, 19. Jh. - ca. Fotos, Ende des 19. Jh. viele Bilder sonst vorhanden aber viele nur hier zu finden. Album scheint jemandem mit besonderen Verbindungen zu Kyebi und Begoro gehört zu haben." - [Handschriftliche Ergänzung:] "(wahrsch. aus der Familie von A. Mohr)."; Note translation: "Album, damaged. Ghana 19th century photographs. End of the 19th century, many photographs which one can find in other places in the collection, but very many only available here. The album seems to have belonged to someone with special relations with Kyebi and Begoro." - A MS note adds: "(probably from the family of A. Mohr)."; Identity of creator is questionable.; Note: Es wird angenommen, dass alle Bilder vor 1895 gemacht wurden. (PST). - Vgl. auch Paul Jenkins, Journal des Africanistes 75.2, 2005.; Note translation: It is assumed that all photos were taken before 1895. (PST). - QD-30.024 is a major factor of uncertainty in the history of Basel Mission photography in Ghana in the 1880s and 1890s. It seems clear that someone additional to Ramseyer was taking photographs in inland Ghana at this time (note how every now and again a print in this album is ascribed to Ramseyer, as if this needed a special remark). It seems very plausible to suggest that Adolf Mohr also had a camera (in view of the number of family pictures - and the handwriting in the album looks as if it could be Mohr's). Could the series on hair styles have been bought in from a professional photographer? At any rate, a careful study of this album and suggestions about answers to the important questions which need to be asked about it could do much to clarify the history of photography in what is now the Eastern Region of Ghana ca. 1890. (PJ 10.2001). NB a comparison with QQ-30.101 would be interesting - an album of Ghana photographs collected by a missionary - Hürlimann - who was in Ghana only for a few years in the 1880s. (PJ 07.2002). - See also Paul Jenkins, Journal des Africanistes 75.2.2005.
