Note: Mit einer Ausnahme (B-30.51.031) werden die Photos der Entities B-30.51 bis B-30.54 Schernius zugschrieben, der ein Missionar der Rheinland Mission in Borneo war, bevor die Basler Mission in den frühen 20er Jahren dieses Missionsfeld übernahmen. Er scheint in einer speziellen Verbindung mit der Missionsstation Puruk Tjahu gestanden zu sein. Wir hatten lange Zeit angenommen, dass diese Dossier nur Photos aus der Zeit vor der Basler Übernahme stammen, die der Basler Mission zur Verfügung gestellt wurden zu einer Zeit, da sie noch kein eigenes Bildmaterial zu Borneo besass. Das ist im Allgemeinen richtig so, denn die meisten der genannten Missionare waren nicht Mitglieder der Basler Mission. Bei genauerer Betrachtung aber scheint es, dass mindestens ein Photo aus der Zeit nach der Übernahme stammt (B-30.54.015, das Motorboot "Basel"). War Schernius jemand, der einige Zeit in Borneo blieb, um bei der Übernahme zu helfen? Eine andere Möglichkeit wäre, dass Teile der Titel nicht von Schernius stammen, sondern von einem anonymen Missionar auf Borneo, der die Bilder nach der Übernahme betrachtete - die Titel von B-30.54.001 und B-30.54.037 enthalten Informationen aus der Zeit nach der Übernahme. Vielleicht existierte das Motorboot "Basel" schon vorher unter anderem Namen und wurde dann von den neuen Besitzern einfach umbenannt?" (PJ 10.2000).; Note translation: With perhaps only one exception (B-30.51.031) the photographs in entities B-30.51 to B-30.54 are ascribed to Schernius, who was a missionary of the Rheinland Mission in Borneo before the Basel Mission take-over of this "mission field" in the early 1920s. He seems to have been especially linked to the mission station of Puruk Tjahu. We have assumed for a long time that thes files contains photographs from before the Basel Mission takeover put at the disposal of the Basel Mission at a time when it had no pictorial materials of its own on Borneo. This is, no doubt, in general correct, since most of the missionaries named are not members of the Basel Mission staff. On closer examination, however, it seems that at least one of the photographs must be dated to after the Basel take-over (B-30.54.015: the motor-boat 'Basel'). Was Schernus someone who remained in Borneo for some time to help with the handover? Another possibility, of course, is that elements in the captions derive not from Schernus, but from some anonymous Borneo missionary looking at the photographs after the take-over - the captions of B-30.54.001 and B-30.54.037 include operational information from after the Basel arrival. Perhaps the motor boat "Basel" existed under another name before, and was renamed by its new users? (PJ 10.2000).
