WILUS KINGSLEY WING Authors' Representative 205 EAST FORTY-SECOND STREET NEW YORK MUrray Hill 4-6470 Cable Address: Win3s, N. V. 15 June 1937 Dear Mr Garland: Mr fcfcham of Macmillan has sent along your letter of 7 June, and I believe there must be a temporary misunderstanding* I had talked with Mr Lord about the manuscript, and he said he was going to write you fully. I felt the material and your presentation exceedingly interesting, but that the ending could be strengthened somewhat by perhaps a fuller treatment of the material in the final two paragraphs. This would have the eTfect of explaining to the reader in somewhat greater detail the significance of the crosses thus far unearthed and your own estimate of the significance of their discovery. I should think also that the fact of your discovering further crosses yourself should certainly be included in the present article. This may well dictate some changes and additions to the manuscript in hand, and I feel it would be unwise to submit this manuscript until that has been accomplished. I am of course very eager to send this out at the earliest opportunity, and if you are willing I should be very glad to have you send on substitute pages to be inserted in the present artiole. I know that it is a difficult problem to condense this whole experience in the compass of one article, and undoubtedly there is muoh more to be said but it seems to me that this suggestion, if you can put it into effect, will increase the saleability of the article. Also, I should welcome, if you can send them on, on or two representative photographic print8. They would be very useful in presenting the article to editors. Fal Hamlin Garland, Esq.
