much ot this is caused from COLD, caught unwittingly, or, in seven cases out of ten, SLUGGISHNESS OF THE LIVER AND BLOOD, and want
of NATURAL PERSIMRAT10N, indiscretion in
the use ot FOOD AND DRINK, or from a dryness
n the atmosphere—which is a very unhealthy
part of this climate—many of the AWFUL, VIOLENT AND SUDDEN DEATHS that occur here
must be attributed to this. Now, reader, I have
made this my study for many years, and I do- assure von that mv DR. WEBBER'S INVIGORATING CORDIAL will cure these causes—it will
insure animation of the LIVER, BLOOD AND
BRAINS—it strengthens the nerves, and gives
to the sufferer a lightness of spirits, a mental and
bodily feeling of strength that is delightful. The
many respectable persons who have been benefited by and certified to its extraordinary qualities

Wlien I a in Old.
When T am old-—and, O how soon
Will life:s morning yield to noon,
And noon's broad, fervent, earnest light
15c Blinded in the solemn night!
Till like » story wel! nigh told
Will seem my life—when I am old.
When I am old, this breezy earth
Will lose fbr me ita voice of mirtll—
The streams will have an under tone
Of sadness not by right their own,
Aod spring's sweet power in vain unfold
ln rosy charms—when I am old.
When I am old 1 shall not care
To deck with flowers my fading hair ;
JTwill be ho viiin desire of mine
Iu rich and costly dress to shine:
Bright jewels and the brightest gold"
Will charm me not—when 1 am old.
When I am old, my friends will, be
Old, and infirm, and bowed, like ine;
Or else, their bodies -'neath the flod,
Their spirits dwelling safe with God ;
The old church belt will long have tolled'
Ahove the rest—when I am old. .
When I nm old, I'd rather bend
Thus Badly o'er each buried friend,
Thau see them lose tlie earnest truth
That marks the friendship of our youth .;"
'Twill be so sad to have them cold
Or strange to me—when I am old.
When I am old—O how it seems
Like the wild luuacy of dreams
To picture in prophetic rhyme
That dim, far distant, shadowy time ;
So distant, that it septus o;er bold
Sven to say—" Wben I am old I"
When I am old—perhaps ere then
1 shall be missed from haunts of men ;
Perhaps my dwelling will be found
Beneath the green and quiet mound,
My name by stranger hands enrolled
Among the dead—ere I am old.
Bre T am old—that time ia now.
For youth fcits lightly on my brow ;
My Jinibs arc firm, and strong, and free ;
Life has a thousand charms for me—

Ere I am old—O let me give
My life to learning how to live!
Then shall'1]: meet with '.Filling heart

Pardon Ukfu.sep.:—From the Sacramento Mercury, of yesterday^ we learn that Willian II. Buster, ex-Treasurer of Sonoma county, who was
sentenced for embezzlement' to eight years in the
State Prison, has recently made an application
for pardon to Governor Weller. The following is
the result:
In Ihis case, the prisouer was convicted bf embezzling, as Treasurer, the funds of Sonoma county
and was sentenced to imprisonment for eight years.
He has already served one year, and a large number of citizens of that couuty have petitioned for
his discharge. Whilst I have a proper respect for
public opinion. I cannot consult it in the exoercise
ofthe pardoning power. The crime which he
has committed affects the whole Mate, and I can
find nothing whatever in the facts connected with
his embezzlement which gives him tbe slightest
claim upon Executive clemency. Therefore pardon
is denied.
