THE WORLD IS Fir---. OF BBAUTV.
There is beauty iu the forest
Where tiie trees are green ami fair ;
There is beauty in the meadow
Where wild flowers scent the air ;
There is beauty in the sunlight
And tho soft, blue beam above ;
Oh! the world ia full or.sauty
When the heart is full of love!
There is beauty inthe fountain,
Singing gaily at its play,
While the rainbow bit s are glittering
On its silvery. shinins spray ;
Ther. is beauty* in the streamlet,
Murmuring softly through; the grove ;
Oh ! the world is full of beauty
Wheu tin. heart is full of love.
There is beauty in the moonlight
When it falls upou the sea,
While tho blue, foa-n crested billows
Dance and .'rolic joyously ;
There's beauty in the lightning gleams
That o'er the dark waves rove ;
Oh ! the world is foil of beauty
When the heart is full of love!
There is beauty in the brightness
Beaming from a loving eye ;
In the warm blush of aff-ction.
In the tear of sympathy !
In the sweet, low voice whose accents
The spirit's gladness prove!
Oh ! the world ts full of beauty
When the heart is full of love !

THE DKUSKARH1. WIFE.
Weary and sad 1 bin sitting alone.
With a dying babe at a cob! h ■nvthstonc ;
And list tothesoundofthedriftingsnow;
Oh, how unlike to long ago!
Those gilded dreamshftve passed away
Tuat filled my heart ou its marriage day,
Arid the trembling tear-Imps' silent flow
Are the tribute tears of long ago.
Oh, the hidden power of lhe sparkling wine
Can banish love from its holiest shrine,
And place in its stead a wreath of wo
In the faded hopes of long ago.
The crowning joy of a woman's life
Is hreathed in the blissful name of wife ;
And the deepest pang her heart cau know
Is the blighted love ol long ago.

We clip the following from an exchange paper
for the benefit of those of our farmer friends,
who are fearful if they subscribe they can'tpaytlu
Printer. We would like a great many subscribers on tbe same terms:
" Early ia the spring of 18—, I casually happened up to the o!fice of ray friend C, whom I found
earnestly engaged in a spirited oonversation with
farmer B. Just as I entered the o-iljco, tlie farmer,
with a very vehement gesticulation, flinging his
arm-- mi-I-air. then lower ng tbeni a* if to pump
out his words in the conclusions of a sentence, in
answer to a qaesilou iv-ked by an editor, ''Can't

but can't afford it; country is uew and e_-p_jd.es
high! must provide for my family first, as t once
read in the newspaper."
•' I can." resumed the editor, ■' show you a novel
■way to pay the printer. I will cite you to it, not
because I want to get your subscription money, hut
merely to convince you that you are perfectly abb
to take a paper, and can afford it, and after takin*
it, will be thoroughly convinced that it would be
showing charity at home. You have hen.*" at home.

app^aled to me as a witness in the affair.
The fanner went aw.-y apparently much elated
in his conquest, and the editor '• went on his way

i'ime rolled round, and the worl. r"vo!ved on
its axis, and the sun moved in its orbit just as it
formerly did ; the farmer received his pa^i ir regularly, and regaled himself with the information ob
tained irom it. H-. not only knew ofthe iffairsin

leading topics ofthe day, and the politic il a.id li-

but our friend the farm.'*,
■•How df-you do, Mr. B.,''said the editor,extending his hand' and his countenancs lit up with a
bland Btnil., " take a chair, sir, andbe*»eate-I, fine

" Yes, sir, quite fine, indeed,'" answered the fur-
in^r,-haking the proffered "paw" ot _heeditor
and then a short silence eQsaed. du 'ing which om
friend B., hitched bis chair backward and forward,
and twirling his thumbs abstractedly, a,ul spitting
profusely. Starting up quickly, ha Baid, addres -
ing te editor, " Mr. C. I've brought you the proceeds of that hen."
It was amusina: to see the peculiar expression of
the editor, as he followed the fanner down to th
wagon. I could hardly keep my risables down
when at t e wagon the farmer commenced handing
over to the editor the products ofthe hen, which
on beiug counted amounted to eighteen pullet*.
worth a shilling each, and a number of dozen egg-.
making the aggregate at the least calculation.
$2.50. one dollar more than the price of tlie paper.
"No need," said he, '• of men not taking a fatn ly
newspaper, and paying for it too. I don't miss
this from my roost, yet I have paid a years'' subscription and a dollar over. All lolly, sir. there's
no man bntcari ^ike a paper ; il'scharity you know
on-mr-mces at ho,ne.''
" But," returned the editor, '• I will pay you for
•what tuere is over the subscription. I d d not in
nt.tute this as a means of profit, but rather to con*.
■Tineeyjii. I will pay you all—"
"Net a bit of it. sir ; a bargain is a bargain, and
I am already, paid, doubly paid. sir. And when
ever a u.ighbor makes the complaint I did, I will
■cite t© him the hen story. Good day gentlemen.''
Afte. his departure the editor and myself had a
beai ty laugh at tbe novelty of the idea, and the
■complete success of the enterprise. Many a sub-
acriber did t.e farmer send in, and in the course ot
a number of years, during which he continued to
take the paper, it was his wont to relate his novel
sttiode of paying the printer to hla guests, which
w^re not a few, for hi3 general information, for
which he always-banked the editor, made him a
desirable,companion, both to old and young and of
invaluable service to the community in which be
lived. He became noted as a man of much reading
and a njan of ejttenBlve information. As he was
courted by the wise, so did he court the company
ofthe illiterate, aud many are the individuals whose
souls were ligbted by the lamp ef his knowledge.
Hi** motto was ever " My light is none the less for

I happen ed again up in the office, wlenwlioshould step in, but our friend the farm.'*, ■•How df-you do, Mr. B.,''said the editor,extending his hand' and his countenancs lit up with a bland Btnil., " take a chair, sir, andbe*»eate-I, fine weather we are having."' " Yes, sir, quite fine, indeed,'" answered the fur- in^r,-haking the proffered "paw" ot _heeditor and then a short silence eQsaed. du 'ing which om friend B., hitched bis chair backward and forward, and twirling his thumbs abstractedly, a,ul spitting profusely. Starting up quickly, ha Baid, addres - ing te editor, " Mr. C. I've brought you the proceeds of that hen." It was amusina: to see the peculiar expression of the editor, as he followed the fanner down to th wagon. I could hardly keep my risables down when at t e wagon the farmer commenced handing over to the editor the products ofthe hen, which on beiug counted amounted to eighteen pullet*. worth a shilling each, and a number of dozen egg-. making the aggregate at the least calculation. $2.50. one dollar more than the price of tlie paper. "No need" said he, '• of men not taking a fatn ly newspaper, and paying for it too. I don't miss this from my roost, yet I have paid a years'' subscription and a dollar over. All lolly, sir. there's no man bntcari ^ike a paper ; il'scharity you know on-mr-mces at ho,ne.'' " But" returned the editor, '• I will pay you for •what tuere is over the subscription. And when ever a u.ighbor makes the complaint I did, I will ■cite t© him the hen story. Good day gentlemen.'' Afte. his departure the editor and myself had a beai ty laugh at tbe novelty of the idea, and the ■complete success of the enterprise. Many a sub- acriber did t.e farmer send in, and in the course ot a number of years, during which he continued to take the paper, it was his wont to relate his novel sttiode of paying the printer to hla guests, which w^re not a few, for hi3 general information, for which he always-banked the editor, made him a desirable,companion, both to old and young and of invaluable service to the community in which be lived. He became noted as a man of much reading and a njan of ejttenBlve information. As he was courted by the wise, so did he court the company ofthe illiterate, aud many are the individuals whose souls were ligbted by the lamp ef his knowledge.
