auction, to the highest bidder for cash, at the
door of the Court House, in the city of Los Angeles, on
WEDAESDA Y, the 23d day of December, A.
D. 1857, at 10 o'clock A. M.,
the following described property, to wit:
All the right, title and interest ofthe defendant,
Edgar Purdy, in and to the following described
lands, lying and being situate in the county of
Los Angeles, in the Township of San Gabriel,
about two miles northerly from the Mission of .-ran
Gabriel, and adjoining the ranch o of Manuel Gar-
fias, being the same lands bought by the defendant at Sheriffs sale, on the 25th day 6*f July,
1853. on execution against the property of Juan
Gallardo, and subject toredemption according to
law. Said land being known by the name of San
Paseual, and previous to said Sheriffs sale occupied by the said Gallardo. Together with all the
tenements, hereditaments and appurtenances
thereunto belonging.

landed at Greytown. The following is ^11 lhat is
known at present of this expedition : On the 24th
of November, a small steamer called the Fashion,
appeared off the port; it did not attempt to enter
but run down on the Colorado river, where Walker
landed fifty men ; on the following day she came
into Greytown at full speed, with only ten men
on deck, ran alongside a hulk, ami before the
boats of the U. S. sloop Saratoga could board her
Walker and his party, amounting to one hundred
and fifty men, had landed at Mr. Scott's. Capt.
Chatard, oi the Saratoga, ordered them away
from Mr. Scott's premises, aud has taken Grey"
town and the property belonging to the Transit
Company under his protection, lie has also informed Walker thai be will not allow any depredations to be committed in either place. On the
Fashion's papers being overhauled, it was found
that she regularly cleared from the custom house

It has been ascertained that Great Britain has
never recognized the jurisdiction of Gosta Ricn
over the river Sau Juan or the Transit Route
All she desires is that Costa Rica should have the
right of navigation for the export ol her produce
by the river, aud the frontier to be settled by free
negotiation between the two Governments. None
of the contracts or granls made by'Costa Rica respecting the Transit are sanctioned or approved by
Great Britain.
The Government has been officially advised that
Sector E-cahuite has been selected by Costa Rica
as Special Envoy to the United States. " He. is expected to awive by the next steamer, but will not

The Reading Railroad company have executed
a moitgage for seven million:; of dollars, to take
the place of the mortgage bonds of 1860, for the

issued the debt of the company will be less than
eleven millions.
The unemployed workingmen of Philadelphia
held another meeting at Spring Garden, on the
17th of November, to consider their grievances.
Two thousand persous were present. William
Caffry presided, A committee was appointed to
