Kimwha, Korea,
July 12, 1936.
Dear Father:
This is Sunday afternoon, and I shall take advantage of a lull in
company to begin my letter. I cannot be as regular as you, somehow.
Trou scarcely ever miss writing on Saturday, or at the latest, Sunday.
vour letterof June 21 came during the morning service. In it were
several interesting enclosures; the note of thanks from Downey auxiliary,
letter from Judge Newby, and the clippings about the marriage of Bill
Shuler and the new Presbyterian church led bv Dr. Machen. 1 am glad
to get these bits of information, for there is hardly any chance of my
knowing them otherwise.
It is too bad after having the long trip to the harbor not to be able
to see your boat. However, if you saw another one of the same line,
that should give you a good idea. Am glad to know it is of a good sixe.
The larger the better. I amssure the trip did Misses Hubbel and West
a lot of good. They never get outside of Rosemead any more, probably,
unless someone takes then that

I had not thought about the kodak films having to be the same size as
the slides, but probably that is so. Enlarging would probably cost
additional. I have the old Brownie that I used for so many years. It
uses 116 film. Then there is the vest pocket kodak that the'Trinity
young people gave me. It is very small; takes 120 film. If you could
use either of those, you would not have to brine: any with you. The cost
of the films is about the same here as there; perhaps a little more
expensive, but not much. The developing is a little cheaper; so altogetl^-
er the total cost is probably not greater.
Thank you for asking the Missionary Conference to send me a copy of the
Minutes. I know I shall enjoy looking through it. I am also glad you
explained the^honorary" membership. I did not know that there were two
kinds of life membership. fhsrt was quite an honor. -
ffi are having some real summer heat now. - It does not bother me much,
however. It is probably cooler here than in Seoul. Although mr house
being in such an ideal location is probably not much different from here.
On account of the cold winters in this province, the schools have a long
winter vacation, over a month, and then only twenty days in the summer.
It makes a big saving in fuel. We had: expected to have Vacation Bible
School for about two weeks here; but on account of the shortness of the
vacation, we shall have to shorten i't a little, tomorrow the church
members are planning on a ''picnic" to a place some distance from here
by a stream where they can fish. A few days ago I suggested an outing
to one of the members* and to the Bible woman. To my surprise I found
the plans going ahead with full speed in a day or two. Yesterday the
Bible woman went out visiting ^nnouncinrxlthe picn
