Description	4 images. Balboa Island ferry boat, 9 December 1953. Ray Kennell -- 57 years (skipper of ferryboat "The Joker").; Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Emery. Date: 1953-12-09. Reporter: Emery to rw. Assignment: Balboa Island ferrybaot. 44: Ray Kennell, 57, cheerful skipper of ferryboat 'The Joker' stands at wheel at island end of the line. 'The Joker' has two wheels, one facing mainland and one facing island, and never turns around. 37/45: Seen from mainland peninsula, 'The Joker' heads for Balboa Island, a 300-yard, 2-minute voyage. 36: Ferryboat arriving from island after 6-minute round trip including 2-minute stop-over. Boat trip saves Islanders 'six miles, 5 blvd. stops and an overhead'".
