Hale left Portuguese Bend Friday at 3:30 p.m. arrived at the Isthmus at 3:30 Saturday A.M., slept on the beach and then sailed for Avalon. From Portuguese Bend to Isthmus, 'Fair Winds' was dismasted once, capsized 4 times. From Isthmus to Avalon she capsized three times. Hale said 'Never again and I dont't [sic] recommend that anyone else try it -- it's just not enough boat. I was lucky".
