Grant -- 25 years (injured in explosion); Alden Muus -- 25 years (injured); the commercial fishing boat "Niki" being towed toward Santa Monica Harbor".; Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Tompkins. Date: 1959-09-04. Reporter: Tompkins. Assignment: Boat explodes in Santa Monica Bay. 60/61D: James M. Grant, 25, 1320 Pearl Street, Santa Monica, is treated at Santa Monica Emergency Hospital for second degree burns on his face, arms, and hands. He was released after treatment. He was burned when a commercial fishing boat exploded. 40/41D: Alden Muss, 25, 2852 Granville Ave., West Los Angeles, also aboard the ill-fated 'Niki' when the commercial fishing boat exploded, waits outside Emergency room as Grant is treated for burns. Muss was not burned. 110/111D: The 30 foot commercial fishing boat 'Niki' is towed toward Santa Monica Harbor after exploding and burning in Santa Monica Bay several miles off Pacific Palisades. The harbor tug Malahat is shown towing the sinking craft. The 'Niki' was sinking as these shots were made; sank completely a few moments later".
