Students were given membership in the Visiting International Students Association sponsored by the rotary. In Southern California, there are 186 foreign students of which 52 are in the Valley area. The students are taken into the various homes there they live for short periods of time. So far this year these two boys have lived in five different homes".; Supplementary material reads: "Visa students hailing from four different countries find a common language, English, in which to exchange their thoughts. Larsen, Visa student attending Scripps College, under the sponsorship of the Pomona Rotary Club, watches as Elizabeth Hullmoine, Visa student from Germany signs scroll paying tribute to W. Fred Lavelle, governor of District 162 Rotary International. The scroll was later presented to Lavelle at the Shadow Mountain Club Saturday night marking the conclusion of the three day annual Rotary conference in Palm Springs".; Supplementary material continues: "Carl Munsen, Covina Realtor and Rotarian of the city who sparkplucked the original Visa student sponsored by a Rotary Club in that organization's district 162 is shown conversing with three Visa students. They are left to right: Victor Ruiz, 24, whose home is near Lima, Peru and is now a student at Orange Coast College near San Clemente; Miss Mette Mathieson, 21, Oslo, Norway, attending Scripps College, sponsored by the Fawnskin Rotary Club of Big Bear. Sunbathing and swimming at the lush Shadow Mountain Club at Palm Desert was one event none of the visiting Visa students did not miss. Fred Lavelle, Covina, president of Rotary International, District 162, is shown above, acknowledges his thanks to Visa students and members of Rotary clubs in his district as he accepts scroll of tribute signed by Visa students.
