| Abstract | The present study sought to further establish the validity evidence of the newly developed Teachers’ Beliefs about Students’ Motivation for Reading Questionnaire by evaluating the cognitive validity of each questionnaire item using a cognitive pretesting (CP) methodology. There were 70 questionnaire items examined. Each item was interpreted by five teachers and three raters scored each interpretation based on the cognitive validity criteria. The cognitive validity ratings were considered reliable from the inter-rater reliability results. The problems revealed from teachers’ interpretations and comments were compiled and evaluated. The results indicated 39 problematic items and the modifications were made accordingly. Implementing the CP methodology in the measurement development process is recommended for future research. |
