" Strike the lintel and the two side posts with the
blood that is in the bason; and-none of you shall
go out at the door of his house until the morning."
—Exodus 12:22.
f~PHE Book of Exodus is one of the richest books
-*- of the Bible on typical truth. The word
"Exodus" means "a way out" and it shows
how God made a way out of Egyptian bondage
for His people. The way out was by the blood
of the Lamb. So today the only way out of
spiritual bondage is by the blood of God's Lamb.
The Book of Exodus opens with the groans of
the slaves and closes with the glory of God in the
midst of the redeemed. How this change? The
blood of the Lamb made the change.
We may make a spiritual application of verse
22 (which appears above) to our own lives. All
through the night of this age, we must keep under
the blood of the Lamb till the morning of His
coming.
Put the blood of the slain Lamb on the door
posts of the house.
Clean all the leaven out from within fhe house.
Eat the roast Lamb and be ready for instant
departure.
There were three things to be done. First, they
had to put the blood on the door. The central
fact of the deliverance from Egypt was the lamb
and its blood. This lamb typified Christ who is
our Passover (1 Cor. 5:7-8). The spotless Lamb
is slain. The very month, the very day, and the
very hour of the day when He should die was long
predicted. The fourteenth day of the first month
between the two evenings was when He died.
The shed blood is applied to the door. Faith
appropriates His death! Behind the blood the
guilty one was safe, justified, passed over. Praise
God for the sheltering Blood! The unsheltered
Egyptians were smitten. Death and doom filled
their homes. The visitation from God brought
wrath to the Egyptians but redemption to the
Israelites. In a single night God broke the bondage of centuries. The nation was born. What
an emphasis on the blood of Jesus!
In the second place, the leaven was put out of
the house. This was an indoor scene. The putting
of the leaven out of the house was the second
command in Egypt. You may have the Blood on
the door, but is the leaven put out? Leaven
typifies the old life—bad habits, sin, wickedness,
evil doctrine and hypocrisy. They searched the
house for leaven and put it out It means that
sanctification must accompany justification. God
demands holiness of life, purity, sincerity and
reality. Many put the Blood on the door (that is,
they get saved) but not so many put the leaven out.
Let us put away every evil thing.
The third requirement was to eat the Lamb with
girded loins. In every blood-sprinkled house there
was a feast. Having put out the leaven they ate
the lamb with unleavened bread. The Lamb is
Christ. Eating is communion. We must commune
with Christ. Eat Him. Eat all the Lamb. Some
would tell us that certain parts of the Lamb are
not for us today, but we can eat the whole Lamb.
Let us feed our hungry souls on Him. Before this they ate Egyptian things like onions,
garlic, cucumbers, etc., which were typical of the
old things we satisfied ourselves with before He
saved us.
Gird the loins. Separate from all. Be not entangled. Be ready to go. The morning is coming.
" The night is far spent, the day is at hand."
Romans 13:12.
