POSSESSING OUR POSSESSIONS
IN 1938.
"There remainetk yet very much land to be possessed."—cJosk. 13, 1.
ISRAEL were slow to possess their inheritance. The land of Canaan had been
conquered by the help of the Lord, but the nation had not yet entered into all
their possessions.
The Church has a great inheritance in Christ—"blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ." We are rich beyond all human comprehension—indescribably,
unspeakably rich. "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the
heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. BUT
GOD HATH REVEALED THEM unto us by His Spirit." The Spirit is revealing
unto us our vast estate. It is a Land of Promise, for every promise is Yea to
those who believe: all things are .ours!
Our great enemy has been overcome for us, Satan has been dispossessed. The
' strong man ' has been spoiled by the " Stronger One." Then " How long are ye
slack to go to possess the land?" God intends us to possess our inheritance fully.
We are not merely to read about it, sing about it, preach about it, long for it, but
to enter in and enjoy it.
The Christian life is a progressive one; we are never to remain stationary. God's
people should always be moving forward in experience. We never come to a place
where we have fully attained. "Not as though I had already attained, either were
already perfect, but I FOLLOW AFTER."
The enemy will strive to keep us out of our inheritance. Although conquered,
the enemy is not exterminated. Our great " Joshua " has vanquished him, but he
is not yet annihilated. Satan employs various tactics. He tries to frighten us; he
shows us some fanatics, and! tries to scare us with religious mania. Or else he
makes us content with what we have, so that we become self-satisfied. Remember,
two-and-a-half tribes stopped outside the land, on the other side of Jordan. Our
enemy tells us the enjoyment of the land is not for us to-day; it is either for those
in the past (Early Church) or for the future (the Millennium).
Press on! Fight on! Ultimate victory is assured. We shall yet see all things
put under Him whose right it is to reign. " If God be for us, who can be against
