Vol. 8. No. 1
JANUARY, 1932 ZnnszC,
NO COMPLAINING,
Ps. 144-14.
/? Ne^ Veai- Message for 1932
How prone we are to complain. First,
the weather is bad, trade is bad,
friends have offended us, others have
despised us, circumstances are against
us, the future is black.
We are naturally full of complaints;
not a day passes without the human
heart giving way to this sin.
Sin ! Why we did not think of it
in this light. No, but there is no doubt
about its sinfulness.
Do we believe that all things work
together for good to them that love
God? Then why are we always complaining? Did the Lord make a mistake when He allowed the trial or circumstance which filled your heart with
murmuririgs and complainings? Are
we not exhorted to Rejoice evermore,
pray without ceasing, in everything
give thanks? Then why should we
join the ranks of the complainers,
murmurers, and discontented grumblers? Would it not have glorified the
Lord if we had prayed first instead of
complaining ?
Complainers reveal their lack of
faith and confidence in God, and to say
when trials are permitted, " Why
should God allow this to happen? "
reveals a heart of unbelief and lack of
confidence in God.
Many Christians are no better than
the Israelites. They are always complaining. Every time you meet them,
they have a complaint against something or someone.
This sin may appear to be a very
small thing, one of the " little foxes,"
but it is as contagious as the most
infectious disease, and once it starts in
an assembly or in a person, there is no
knowing where it may end. We find it
in Exodus xiv. 10-12, just after God
had brought Israel out with a strong
hand. As soon as they were confronted
with a difficulty, they MURMURED.
That was the beginning of their downfall ; all through the wilderness they
murmured and complained. They complained about everything, from the
leader God had appointed over them to-
the water they had to drink. They
even went so far as to complain about
the Angels' food which God rained
down upon them. They did not have to
work for it or do anything at all except
gather it, and yet they found cause to
complain.
Consequently, when they came to
Kadesh Barnea, it was impossible for
them to enter into Canaan, for their
confidence in God had become shattered. God commanded them to go in
and possess their inheritance. He
promised them everything that they
needed. Everything was in their
favour, but they went not in. Their
faith had been completely destroyed.
