"SILENCE." How prone the human
heart is to return railing for railing.
Harsh words—bitter words. Hasty
words are dangerous. When your reputation and character are at stake; when
your name is besmirched by others who
were once your friends, BE QUIET.
SILENCE. HUSH. Leave them in His
hands. Remember Him. Despised—
Rejected—Scourged—Spit upon—Forsaken by His followers—Smitten—
Stricken — Bruised — Battered — Misunderstood — False Witnesses lied
against Him—yet " HE OPENED NOT
HIS MOUTH."
BE SILENT.—A word may mar your
peace of heart and mind. When you
are wronged, your good name tarnished,
your motives misjudged, your actions
misunderstood, take it meekly, quietly.
Don't seek to justify yourself. Refrain from argument, railing, or controversy. BE QUIET. HUSH. Tell
the Saviour. Mind your own affairs.
Leave all in His hands and press on,
delighting only to do His will and basking under His smile-
Never speak an unkind word, never
disparage nor condemn others. Avoid
evil-speaking and evil speakers. Shun
busy-bodies. Shun like a plague all who
delight to speak of the mistakes, fail
ures, faults, and weaknesses of others
behind their backs. Say nothing. BE
QUIET. SILENCE. HUSH; not a
word. But SHUN them in future.
Protect the lovely garden of your
heart from this filthy rubbish by avoiding them. Don't tell others what they
said. Be silent. Pray for them. Never
complain, murmur, or grumble. Speak
well of others. If you cannot do this,
say nothing. If you nag and murmur
your spirit is disturbed and discontented. Never fret because of backbiters, evil-speakers, and evil-workers.
Why worry? Roll everything on HIM.
Be quiet. Tell Him. Why tell others ?
Can't you trust Him to right the wrong?
He delights to see you quiet, peaceful,
restful, without anxiety, worry, care;
your heart free from bitterness, anger,
hatred, malice, retaliation or revenge.
So BE SILENT.
When others smite one cheek, turn
the other; when others forsake thee,
desert thee, mock thee, lie about thee,
condemn, criticise, find fault, judge
wrongly, spit on thee, misunderstand,
Remember HIM. HUSH! OPEN NOT
THY MOUTH. Get alone with HIM.
Keep thy hand on the plough, and be
about THY FATHER'S BUSINESS
and—SILENCE!
