At the beginning of 1927 we expressed
our desire for all our readers and all the
Pastors, Leaders, Evangelists, Missionaries, Presbyters, and members of
Assembles by wishing them a Glorious
New Year. The Lord has not failed us.
At home scenes of glorious revival have
been witnessed at Maidstone, Canterbury,
Gravesend, Folkestone, Deal, Louth,
Bishop Auckland, Sunderland, Seaham
Harbour, Spennymoor, Chesterfield,
Bury, and other places. Approximately
thirty new Assemblies have been added,
and reports of growth and increased
numbers in old Assemblies are being continually received. Let us magnify the
Name of our glorious Lord for thousands
of men, women and young people who
have, during 1927, passed out of death
into life. The Campaigns recently conducted by our brother Mr. Stephen
Jeffreys in Durham have exceeded anything he or others have seen before, and
the revival fires are still burning there.
Our Missionaries in China and South
America have passed through deep
waters, but we are sure the time will
come when they shall look back upon
these dark experiences and magnify the
Name of the Lord, Who hath done all
things well. In looking forward to the
future, it is our joy in the Name of the
Lord Jesus to heartily wish you all "A
Prosperous New Year.'
THE PROSPERING SOUL
(John iii.).
Malignant germs abound everywhere,
but they only prevail against the anaemic
and poverty blooded. The rich-blooded
and richly-functioned body is safe with a
million microbes in the mouth; and so the
prospering soul is unaffected by the
malignant germs of worldliness, carnality,
pride, envy, jealousy, backbiting, evil
speaking, busy-bodying, and other
disease-spreading microbes.
Prosperous souls are
GREAT GIVERS.
The human plan is to hoard, the Divine
plan is " Give, and it shall be given to
you " • herein lies the secret of enlargement and greater possessions. Dost
thou desire to be so prosperous that thou
shalt have good measure, pressed down,
shaken together and running over, then
begin at once to give lavishly, liberally
and bountifully. The greatest giver of
all was the poorest of all in material
things. Had He not to catch fish in
order to pay His taxes? Is it not said of
the King of Glory, that certain women
ministered unto Him, and yet He was
the greatest Giver the world has ever
known. He gave joy, comfort, strength,
health, consolation, sympathy, hope,
tenderness, help, and, finally, as a corn
of wheat fell into the ground and gave
His life. How amazing! How wonderful! This is what charmed Paul the
Apostle and lured him into that great
company of great givers. How he
delighted to pen those words: "He
loved me and ' gave' Himself for me."
He that hoards shall come to penury;
he that gives to prosperity. With .what
