At the beginning of 1926 we had the joy
of wishing our readers " A Victorious
New Year," and we believe it has been a
year of increasing Victory. Let us all
exalt the Name of our Victorious Lord
for the Victories accomplished through
His Name. Notwithstanding difficulties,
trials, perplexities, persecutions, oppositions and false reports, the Lord has given
us a Victorious Year. Nearly 30 new
Assemblies have been received into fellowship, unity has been maintained, reports
of increasing blessing and a rising tide of
revival are becoming more numerous; but
there is still very much land ahead to be
possessed, and in the Name of the Lord
we heartily wish all our readers, presbyters, evangelists, pastors, elders, missionaries and members of Assemblies A
GLORIOUS 1927. May it be a year of
" GLORIOUS REST,"
not a rest from activity but a
rest " in" it, not a rest from work
but a rest " in " it. Not a restless rest,
but a rest from restlessness. It will be
a GLORIOUS rest, because it is HIS.
(See Isa. xi, 10). What are the Glories
which make His rest glorious? Perhaps
the greatest glory is that He who has
entered into His rest has ceased from His
own works "as " God did from His.
Here there are no fearful, trembling, agitated, bewildered, anxious and terrorised
hearts. He has made peace by the blood
of His Cross; what can your works add to
that work? "It is finished." " He has
sat down " and is still " seated." What
are you going to do? This is rest indeed.
Working? Yes. Labouring? Yes. Fighting? Yes. Building? Yes. Shepherding?
Yes. Running? Yes; but not goaded on
by anxious, gloomy, despondent fears, but
AT REST. Then what shall we say of
the Glories of " His Rest," which finds
us at Rest in Storms, not rushing round
the ship agitated, expecting it to sink?
O ye of little faith, when storms arise this
coming year, rest down in the hold, at His
side; not going frantic with fear in the
lion's den, lay down, it is all right, He
will muzzle them. The coming year may
be one of tribulation, distress, hardness,
difficulty and perplexity, but the calm, unruffled peace of His Glorious Rest may be
yours. May it also be a year of
GLORIOUS LIBERTY (Rom. 8).
This is certainly not a liberty which
leaves everyone to do that which is right
in their own eyes, nor one which recog-
