HEADQUARTERS, MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE MEMORIAL EDITION, 1994 JURISDICTIONS SET RECORD WITH NATIONAL REPORTS The April Call Meeting of 1994 was a record-setting session lor the Church Of God In Christ. More revenue was reported by the jurisdictions than ever before. Leading the way was Presiding Bishop Louis Henry Ford and his Illinois First Jurisdiction. Standing head and shoulders above the rest, the Chief Apostle reported $170,151.00. His actual assessment is $55,000.00. Chairman of the General Assembly, Bishop Frank Ellis, enthusiastically called the bishops and supervisors to stand before the assembly, to make the annual reports. Newly elected financial secretary. Bishop Frank White, announced that a record amount of $3,420,302.15 had been submitted. The delegates applauded this accomplishment by our National Church. The following list provides the name of each jurisdiction; the jurisdictional leaders' names; the assessed amounts and the actual amounts reported. The national delegation was led by Presiding Bishop Louis II. Ford, members of the General Board. Board of Bishops. Board of Supervisors, saints and friends. Nearly 1.5(H) gathered to sing, pray and eulogize one of the most dedicated women ever to serve the Lord. Since 1976, Mother Mattie McGlothen had been at the helm of the Department of Women. Her years of service were fruitful and distinguished by innumerable accomplishments. The whole event was heartfelt and inspiring because Mother McGlothen's character was so outstanding. Praise from every facet of society and the religious world poured in. She was heralded as a "mother to all " Rider A.Z. Hall lauded her as a courgageous spiritual warrior. Mother Emma Crouch, a long time assistant, referred to mothei's work: "Mother's job was building righteous monuments in the hearts of men, women, girls and boys." Mother Freddie Bell, a chief aide and leader of the hospitality unit stated, "Not only did Mother McGlothen teach holiness, she practiced holiness." In tribute to their fallen leader, the supervisors wore the formal habit attire, the international hospitality workers were dressed in black dresses with gold flowers. It was a saintly and classy tribute. Not only did the religious leadership recognize the contributions and the devotion of "mother," but public officials and community leaders of Richmond, California also paid her tnbute. The city council adjourned a session, and. people throughout the city paused in love, respect and appreciation for the great legacy of our late Supervisor of Women. The streets of Richmond were blocked off to facilitate the How of mourners. All parking restrictions were waived; and, the saints were accorded special privilege. The punt and electronic media paid daily tribute, as both black and white communities dealt with the loss of "a mother." The genuine teeling about Mother Mattie McGlothen was reflected on the faces of everyone in attendance. Alas, the fact remained that she finished her work and now resides with her Lord. There were two services conducted in memory of Mother McGlothen. On Monday night, her body lay in state as hundreds of mourners passed by. On Tuesday and Wednesday the eulogies were delivered by Bishop W.W. Hamilton and Presiding Bishop Louis H. Ford, respectively. Bishop Hamilton had served as Mother McGlothen's jurisdictional prelate. She had worked faithfully with him. Elder John Jennings, pastor of McGlothen Temple, called her "an ideal member." Presiding Bishop Ford had enjoyed a life long association with "mother" because together each worked with the pioneers ol the Church Of God In Christ. Bishop Ford preached from Proverbs 31 and told the saints that "Her Candle Will Never Go Out." Both bishops' eulogies made the funeral rites a celebration of victory and bespoke the reward mother has because of the stewardship which characterized the McGlothen era. The eulogies reflected the saintly life of Mother McGlothen and sent a message of hope to all in attendance. Mother Mattie McGlothen left an exemplary legacy for generations to come.
