Ohio, often referred to as the Queen City, received the •queens' of the Church Of God In Christ. This year the Queen City hosted the 40th Annual \\omenis International Convention of the Church Of God In Christ Dr Mattie McGlothen welcomed hundreds of ladies from around the world. Before the week was over the convention had established anrttei*; dance record. Theme for this conference COGIC Women Impacting The Nineties With The P. ei lasting Gospel" was lifted up daily by inspired speakers. Supervisor Martha C. Walker Fh.u. reflected, "We must meet the challenge, shoulder our responsibilities, witness and spread the everlasting Word of God everywhere. Her words proved prophetic as our inspired women demonstrated to Cincinnati the saving witness of Christ. The area bishops and supervisors labored incessantly to help provide the needed facilities and services to the saints. Bishop F.E. Perry, Ohio Southern, Bishop Warren Miller, Ohio Central Bishop Robert Chapman, Ohio Northeast and Bishop William James, Ohio North blended influence and resources to support the ladies of he Church. Bishop James led the rally to lift the finance and the other bishops supportedhis ca 1.for greater jurisdictional support. Mother McGlothen acknowledged their warmth and commitment. The area supervisors stood firmly with their respective bishops. Along vvith the bishops were supervisors, Maryellen Meredith, Ellen Pettigrew, Sarah Thompson and Hannah Bell. Certainly each supervisor made her Ohio Jurisdiction proud. Other area jurisdictional prelates, and supervisors who lent their support were Bishop S.Y Burnett and Supervisor Geneva Fulton; Bishop MJ. Sykes and Supervisor Mary Bell; Bishop Milton Hall and Supervisor Beulah Hatchett; Bishop John Dupree and Supervisor Beatrice Collins; and Bishop Oscar Freeman and Supervisor Ida M. Sanders. What happened at the Convention? The Nationa Steering Committee has always provided the best. Only the best seminars and training sessions were conducted. The delegates were given talented teachers and innovative curnculums. Still, tne ladies started every morning with morning prayer and praise. Bishop Ithiel Clemmons and team were spiritually uplifting. An added attraction was he first sermon delivered by newly elected Presiding Bishop Ford. Bishop Ford spoke before an overflow crowd in the Convention Center. The women were Pictures of loveliness and studiously attended the prayers, seminars and general worship service m great numbers Martaez A Cyars Daily, the saints gathered for a dose of inspiration. Only the women of the Church could think of a mechanism to deliver the highest praise: an Inspirational Team. Many Evangelists from around the country' rallied the convention for Jesus. There were great shouts and praises going forth daily. Some of the messages delivered were of the most profound and stirring quality. Supervisor Freddie J. Bell, inveterate worker and saint, spoke to a packed convention center. She was introduced as "a woman who never projects herself, and a true servant of God." As she stood before the saints, Mother Bell lauded the character and leadership of Mother McGlothen. Mother Bell's thought was quite appropriate, "Gospel is Good News for Bad Times. In developing the thought, Mother Bell thoroughly explained these times of disorientation and destruction. In her heart, she affirmed the brightest and best answer for these days is the gospel. Our Saintly Mother, International Supervisor ol Women. Dr. Mattie McGlothen was scheduled to speak before the convention. Her tenure as International Supervisor has been unequalled. I lock, Presiding Bishop Presiding Bishop Louis Henry Ford announced at a joint gathering of bishops, supervisors, and selected individuals that Saints Academy s scheduled for reopening. The proposed reopening is part and parcel of the Bishop's roots oriented pro-am. Presiding Bishop Ford is committed to he Church Of God In Christ, both her past and future, therefore, the legacy which is Saints Academyre- mains close to his heart. Bishop views the Saints cZlnstll matter of unfinished business and U"?^ES P-Perty once was home to the Saints jSfor College which had a long standing history of accomplishment. The presiding officer againf-ducating. training and providing hope for tuture generations. His innovative program targets he school as a second chance institution for less for- unate and troubled youths. Dr. Donald Wheelock made it clear however, the second school, in pr.n- aple vvould *rve a «ell defined group.
