Recently, he met with officials from the Memphis Convention and visitors Bureau It was apparent the Kansas City meeting made the church's grievances about over charging for rooms and less than desirable convention marketing would no longer be tolerated The committee revealed evidence that one Memphis hotel gouged delegates after identifying them with the Holy Convocation. Mr Tom Dobhn. President of the Mem phis Hotel and Motel Association and Mr. Daryle l.addet. Chan man <»ff f\t.vel,"l»imnl foi **>» Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau were open and eager to make any necessary step to keep the Convocation in Memphis Bishop Porter released a joint letter from the city and county mayors. In it they outlined their total support to find the necessary solution to the problems That letter is included in this current edition of the Whole Truth As evidence of progress, Bishop Porter reflected over the following items In November of 1987 rates for rooms have been brought down an average $51.49 daily (See rate list in this current issue) In 1988 the Hotel and Motel Association promised an increased number of rooms. In 1988 all reservations will be handled jointly through the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau and Cogic Housing. When the story broke, the local press both print and electronic made it the lead story Cogic has an air of unity on this matter. Without question the resolve and strong commitment of the General Board and General Assembly have made this possible. In closing the interview. Bishop Porter commended the committee's work and feels together they will accomplish more. For the record the National Housing Commit tee is represented by the following saints: Bishop W L.
