MOTHER MATTIE McGLOTHEN That time is almost here again' The women of the Church of God in Christ are preparing to conduct the greatest Women's International Convention ever Much prayer and hard work has gone into creating what should be a wonderful time of female fellow ship. Dr. Mattie McGlothen, Supervisor of women, her staff and the host jurisdictions are ready to receive the hundreds of saints. This will be the 11th year Mother McGlothen has presided over the convention. Each year has gotten better. In a time of world crisis, it is good to know one can go someplace and experience fellowship, praises and thanksgiving to God May 26-31,1987. the women will fill Kansas City's hotels. 1600 red cards have already been paid out and the count is growing daily Mother Freddie Bell urges all delegates to quickly obtain the red card. She reflected, "the delegates should gel the red card before they arrive in Kansas City. This will enable them to go directly to their abode." Housing is always a critical matter and the women are very diligent to ensure that every delegate receives maximum service. The theme for this convention will be "COGIC Women Communicating the Unfolded Vision! (Habakkuk 2:1-4)" The women have planned activities which will make the theme a clear statement for women on the march. Of course, daily prayer and devotions will commence early in the morning. As usual, it shall be conducted by Bishop Ithiel Clemmons and Mother Shaw, two seasoned prayer warriors. Don't miss the sweet and powerful anointing of daily prayer because it will change one's prayer life. On pre-musical night, the municipal auditorium will hold a wealth of musical talent The Church is so blessed with choirs, soloists and groups of all descriptions. Daily the convention offers seminar ses sions Dr. Carrie Dinwiddie will lead a qualified and highly pre pared team of instructors in a most interesting series of topics. The seminar will explore and develop the theme. "COGIC Women. Communicating The Unfolded Vision." Theme development will be centered in the areas of, "Foolish Women Attempt to Communicate Visions Without a Clear Under standing." Secondly, "Zealous Women, Run Away With The Vision," this topic examines how the vision can literally be ruined by uncontrolled zeal. Thirdly, "Deceived Women, Run After Visions" and lastly, "Wise Women, Run With The Vision " One cannot afford to miss these seminar sessions. The delegate, her/his local church and area of ministry will benefit from daily attendance. There wi\\ be several speakers scheduled for the convention. Of course the presiding officer, Bishop J. 0. Patterson, Sr., will be scheduled to take the pulpit Friday night. Mother McGlothen is scheduled to address the convention officially on Thursday. Surely many others will be prepared to bnng the good news of the Master. The Convention Keynote address will be given by a beautiful saint and industrious missionary. Her star is rising in the east and certainly she is able to deliver the word. Can't tell you who she is, so be there and bnng an empty cup! For sure Kansas City will never be the same after the women conduct their convention. Since Missouri is the "Show Me" state, this reporter suggest you attend and see for yourselves. The Mason Theological Seminary located in Atlanta, Georgia conducted the 7th Annual Riley F. Williams Minister's Confer ence and 17th Founder's Day Celebration These combined events were attended by hundreds of delegates from around the country. They shared three days of fellowship in the pursuit of knowledge and skills building activities. Dr. Oliver J. Haney, Jr, Dean of the seminary was elated on how the blending of the two annual events accented one another. February 23-26 will long be remembered as one of the greatest conference-founder's day programs on record, On the campus of the Interdenominational Theological Cen ter, the site of Mason Seminary, the delegates found the student body poised to receive them with open arms. The emphasis of the conference was "Shepherding God's Flock." Before the actual conference began, musical talent, Professor Iris Stevenson of Los Angeles, California conducted a gospel concert at the Cathedral Of Faith Church of God in Christ. The pre conference musical was highly spiritual and attendance was great' Literally, hundreds of saints and friends gathered to hear Sister Stevenson's smooth styling of gospel arrangements. Local talent abounded and everyone praised God for the evening. On the following day the Elder E. E. Savage, pastor of Greater Eastside Church of God in Christ, Stockton, California preached the opening conference message. He preached a dynamic message from Acts the 3rd chapter, "What To Do About The Lame Man." His powerful style and presence rocked the chapel and set the tone of the conference. After Elder Savage came Dr. Verney Clark of Atlanta, Georgia. He provided the morning lecture, "Biblical And Theological Foundation For Ministry." Following him was Dr. Bennie Goodwin, Associate Professor of Christian Education, ITC. Dr. Goodwin lectured on, "The Pastor As A Leader." As usual. Bro. Bennie, as the saints call him was profound and thoroughly represented his discipline. Later in the evening sesion, the worship was accented by a special guest preacher. Bishop Joseph C. Coles, Jr., Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, Fifth Episcopal District, preached the conference theme: "Shepherding God's Flock." The ITC chapel was spiritually charged by the words of this most peaceful and kind man. DR. O.J. HANEY Wednesday morning, Dr. J. C. Haynes, pastor of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, Hartford. Connecticut lectured on the theme. "The Spiritual Life Of The Minister And Its Impact On The Growing Congregation." Dr. Haynes is one of the east coast's more profound thinkers and skilled technicians of ministry. After Dr. Haynes, Chaplain Carolyn Warren, Atlanta and Chaplain at Southwest Community Hospital lectured on "The Pastor As Counselor." Chaplain Warren is a 1987 grad uate of Mason Theological Seminary. She found her return to those hollowed walls a sweet one. Elder Charles Brown, pastor. Full Gospel Church of God in Christ. New Orleans. Louisiana preached a wonderful message during t he morning session. His topic, "A Shepherd's Heart" was merely symbolic of why he pastors Louisiana's fastest grow ing congregation. Dr. James E. Massey Dean of the Chapel, Tuskegee Institute University and renowned author preached possibly the conference's outstanding message. Dr. Massey lifted up the subject. "What To Do When Life Scares You." He used every bit of the knowledge used to author his book, Designing The Sermon. Thursday, Dr. John W. Warters, lectured on, "The Minister's Personal Finances: Taxes. Pen sion and Estate Planning " Dr. Warters is the Regional Vice- President of the A. L. Williams Company. His practical approach to finance indicated the necessity of preparation for quality life in elder years. Next Dr. J C. Haynes provided the preached word to the crowd gathered for the 17th Founder's Day Convocation. The ITC chapel was filled and Dr. Haynes used his opportunity well as he preached, "The Importance Of Preaching." The Lord charged the entire building and greatly did the saints praise His name. After the luncheon, one could see several Mason Alumni/ae in the crowd. They came from all over the country and were excited about the whole activity. The afternoon lecture was a panelist type session. Bishop and Mrs. Samuel L. Green, Jr., Newport News, Virginia and Elder and Mrs. Thomas L, Frazier were scheduled to provide the discussion. The topic was, "Teams In Ministry: The Pastor and Wife, The Missionary and Husband." That evening the conference gathered at the Radisson Hotel and Bishop Green Keynoted the worship. Hundreds were in attendance and heard an inspiring message The tangible evidence of the Bishop's preaching was the aftermath, to an appeal for revitalizing the seminary's dormatory building effort. $20,000.00 in pledges came in and $2,000.00 actual cash was collected. Many Alumni/ae gathered to create a special project for continuing the building effort. All and all the delegates from New York to California found the entire event one to remember. The Riley F. Williams Minister's Conference is growing yearly. Next year, Lord willing there shall be more of the same!
