Abstract | The purpose of this thesis is to obtain in a general way a picture of the "movie traits" of the boys of this underprivileged group of boys. No such study has as yet been made for this area of Los Angeles and the answers to such questions as: What theaters do these boys patronize? Whendo they see the pictures that they talk about? On what days do they most frequently attend? Do they always go alone? and What types of artists and pictures do they prefer? have to the present been vague guesses based upon few cases rather than on a group study.; It is commonly stated and generally accepted by all playground workers and boys' club leaders that boys are the same regardless of color, creed or class. Under the veneer of social inheritance and training there are no classes, they are all boys. With this in mind it would be interesting to study the likes and dislikes of these boys concerning movies and to compare them with the results of similar studies, or various other groups of boys of Los Angeles. Not only would it be interesting to compare these boys with other groups of boys in this city, but it would be just as interesting to compare than with under-privileged boys of other cities.; More specifically, the desire is to obtain information concerning the types of theaters which these boys attend. Due to their proximity to burlesques and cheap all night shows and the recognition as a problem the regular attendance of certain individuals, it is very desirable to obtain more and accurate information concerning the group as to their attendance at this type of theater and what it is that attracts them. |
