| Abstract | Cliffs In Splendor is a fifteen-minute piece for full orchestra completed in the fall of 2011. The work, consisting of three major parts, begins slowly but soon quickens to a fast pace. A slow lento follows, succeeded by a fast and rhythmic finale. ❧ The work has an instrumentation of piccolo, two flutes, two oboes, English horn, clarinet in E-flat, two clarinets in B-flat, two bassoons, contrabassoon, four horns in F, three trumpets in C, three trombones, tuba, timpani, glockenspiel, crotale (bowed), vibraphone, chimes, triangle, tambourine, cymbals (suspended and crash), tam-tam, bass drum, celesta, harp, and strings. ❧ Commissioned by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. |
