| Abstract | By looking at the experiences of the Chinese government and its businesses, this thesis attempts to determine which forms of economic initiatives with North Korea are most effective at creating change and achieving one’s goals. In a world where many leaders continue to choose only sanctions against North Korea, economic interdependence and engagement may provide a more successful route. China has taken the lead in engagement with North Korea in order to create stability on its own border and obtain resources to support its own economic growth. This thesis determines that China has had mixed success, but its continued efforts may prove more fruitful in the future. |
