Ultimately, the purpose of this study was to examine effective leader practice for leading in the urban context.; The study described how one K-8 principal in an urban setting participated in a principal preparation program, and how that program enabled the practice of the leader in the urban context of schooling. The principal and teachers participated in pre and post interviews, observations, and the Vanderbilt Assessment of Leadership in Education (VAL ED) for the data collected in this study.
